NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP)
WHAT IS NLP?
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) was created back in the early 1970's by Richard Bandler and John Grinder. NLP has been described as the modelling of excellence. In practical terms it consists of a number of procedures that one can use to create a positive change to one's behaviour.
Did You Know Your Brain Cannot Tell The Difference Between Imagination and Reality
Let me explain
We all experience the world through our five senses, we see, hear, touch, taste and smell what’s going on. That’s how human beings are built. Our brains go through a decoding process in order to literally make sense of what is happening. When we imagine or think, or remember we represent experiences within our own mind using those same senses. So we make pictures, hear sounds, talk to ourselves, experience feelings etc.
Consider this, a painful memory can make us wince and a pleasant one can make us smile. But even more with this vivid type of recall we can actually create virtual reality based on what we know or what think we know!
So we can get scared about something that isn’t real (watching a scary movie for example) or we can get excited about something that hasn’t yet happened (lying on a warm sandy beach on holiday for example). The irony is that for most people for most of the time this seems like a process we have little or no control over. It just seems to happen.
It has been said that the average person knows more about the way their mobile phone or their computer works than they do their own brain! How useful would it be for you to understand more about the way your mind actually works? I have always been fascinated by this kind of stuff.
And that fascination lead to many years spent studying. As a result, I am a NeuroLingstic Programming Master Practitioner having been trained by Denise Collins who has trained with some of the world leaders in the field e.g. Richard Bandler, Paul McKenna, Lohil Grinder and Stephen Gillian.
NLP is so much more than merely a set of quick fix techniques. (Although people often know about the practical applications like the fast phobia cure or methods for overcoming habits like smoking). In a nutshell, NLP is about improving the we experience the world.
A way of actually improving your thought processes so you can feel good for more of the time and thereby behave and take the actions necessary to move you in the direction of actually achieving your desires.
We can’t always change what happens to us. However we can change how we use it. Without an insight into the way our minds and brains work and the way that influences what actually happens to us it can be easy to think that much of our experience is beyond our control.
I wonder who do you know that is the kind of person who sees only what they expect to see? Who are the “I’ll believe it when I see it! People. And how might their perspective improve if they suspended disbelief long enough to experience what is there as opposed to what they believe is there?
If I haven’t lost you yet then I know you are the kind of person who would enjoy discovering more about how to communicate with yourself and others better. To enhance your life, to rid youself of unwanted beliefs, fears, phobias, etc.
